Gateway Suites: Lovely views near Banff

Worst experience ever. Skip this place. Negative: Warning to all our fellow travelers: do NOT stay here! After many years traveling Europe, US and Canada, we have yet to find a worse experience.. We booked this room for 940 CAD for 4 nights in May. This room is on the bottom floor and ceiling/ walls of this flat seem to be made out of paper or cardboard, as the noise from others is unbelievably loud. You can hear conversations from the upstairs neighbours and when they walk, its like they are walking in your flat. You can feel the vibrations from the walking and even shifting weight delivers loud squeeky and cracky noises. We are used to normal living sounds but this is not that. You can't fix this situation with earplugs. At the first night, we were amazed by the amount of loudness (family of 4 with children were still going after "quiet time") that we contacted the host that this is not working for us and if he could cancel some of the other nights. This was not possible. He said that it was in the ad, that there was potential noise from others and the road, that not all flats are owned by him and that he can help adressing it with the neighbour. Nothing could be done at that time, since theres no management on site. Oh, I almost forgot, this flat is located right next to the highway also. As we sat it out it got worse. No guest here seems to respect the quiet time, it's not taken seriously. People come home at or after midnight, keep talking outside, laughing. The next guest upstairs went all night slamming things, running around, turning shower on/off. Husband went upstairs multiple times without success. Reached out to host again, nothing done about it. We left at 00.30h to check into another hotel. What a nightmare. Waaay to expensive for what you get, looking at sound isolation, but also dodginess of the site, cleanness, maintanance, it should be max 75 CAD. We were left hanging by the host. Be wise, spend your money elsewhere because we wish this, being sleep deprived, upon no one.

Bang for the buck near Banff Positive: The place was perfect for our family. It didn't have many amenities but it had all the basics at a price that can't be beat! Negative: Nothing. It was perfect for our standards.

Great place to stay at an affordable price Positive: Convenient location at a good price Negative: The noise from other rooms can be quite loud

As I didn’t have a personal vehicle, the location was a bit of a challenge but everything else was very good. Positive: Comfortable, clean, cosy & well priced Negative: Located away from public transport. Have to rely on taxis.
